The holiday season took on a distinctly Kenyan flair in Los Angeles, as the Kenyan community gathered for the annual Kenyan Diaspora Christmas Party—a festive celebration full of laughter, culture, music, and connection.
Held in December, the event offered a warm and joyful space for families, friends, and newcomers to come together and celebrate Christmas with a blend of traditional Kenyan hospitality and holiday spirit.
Event highlights included:
A delicious buffet of Kenyan and international holiday dishes, including nyama choma, pilau, chapati, and desserts
Live performances by Kenyan musicians and DJs spinning Afrobeat, Benga, and Christmas classics
A Santa meet-and-greet and gift exchange for children
Dance competitions and cultural showcases that brought out the joy and rhythm of the community
A Christmas raffle and prizes, sponsored by local diaspora businesses
Opportunities for networking, photo ops, and sharing the joy of the season
More than just a party, the event reminded attendees of the strength of community and the beauty of staying connected to Kenyan traditions—even while thousands of miles from home.
As one attendee put it: “It felt like being back in Nairobi for the holidays—just with more palm trees!”
